This holiday tradition of kissing under the mistletoe may be one of your favourites but could also be one of the worst for your dental health.
It will come as no surprise to you that thousands of germs can be transferred during a single kiss. What’s more, germs such as the ones that cause flu and colds aren’t the only ones that are highly contagious. So is the virus that causes cold sores.
Studies have shown that the germs that cause gum disease and dental cavities can also be contagious. If the person you are kissing has poor oral hygiene, the risks of bacteria being transferred is even higher.
So while we’re not completely discouraging kissing under the mistletoe, it’s important to consider the potential hazards that exist for your oral health.
